Memorial Day Ceremonies at State Veterans Cemeteries, Nursing Homes

FRANKFORT, Ky (May 24, 2016)   Kentucky’s four state veterans cemeteries and three veterans nursing homes will hold ceremonies this Memorial Day holiday honoring those who have died for our country.

Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North, Williamstown:  11 a.m. EDT, Monday, May 30.

Guest speaker will be COL Alan Back, USAR.  Wreaths will be placed by family members of those interred there. Stephanie Price will sing the National Anthem. MA1 John Rudisell, USN will perform taps. Grant County Honor Guard will post the colors, and the Williamstown Women’s Club will provide refreshments.

Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West, Hopkinsville:  11 a.m. CDT, Monday, May 30. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1913 (VFW) Hopkinsville will host Memorial Day services at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West again this year. The Pennyrile Honor Guard will present the colors. Guest Speaker will be Lincoln W. Foster. John Brame, Commander of VFW Post 1913 and KVCW Director Richard Stanley will place the wreath. John Brown will play taps.

Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North East, Greenup County:  10 a.m. EDT, Monday, May 30. The East Carter Junior ROTC will post the color and perform the wreath-laying ceremony. Guest speaker will be Army Veteran and 98th District State Representative Lew Nicholl. Lauren Beth Dickerson will sing the National Anthem. The Musical Carillon will play taps.

Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliff:  11:30 a.m. EDT, Monday, May 30. Incoming Fort Knox Post Commander Major General Christopher Hughes will be the main speaker and Vietnam helicopter pilot John Flanagan will be a special guest speaker.  The Heartland Fillies will provide special music.

KVCC is seeking volunteers to place flags on gravesites this Saturday, May 28 at 10 a.m.

Thomson-Hood Veterans Center, Wilmore: 10:30 a.m. EDT, Monday, May 30. Ceremony will be held in the Living Room.  Chaplain Colonel (RET) DeWayne Brewer will be the Key Note Speaker.  Thomson-Hood Veterans will Post the Colors and provide Taps for the Memorial Day Ceremony. Family and Friends are invited to attend our Service to help honor our Veterans during the final Roll Call for residents who passed from May 18, 2015 through May 13, 2016. Paul E. Patton Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center, Hazard:  Eastern Kentucky Veterans Center residents will be attending the Memorial Day Ceremony at EKVC 10:00 a.m. EDT Monday, May 30, followed by refreshments.  The guest speaker is Perry County Judge-Executive Scott Alexander.  Ms. Kelly Fugate will sing America the Beautiful.  DAV of Hazard will present the wreath to the eldest resident at EKVC, and perform the 21-gun salute and taps. There will be a slide presentation and roll call for residents who have passed in the last year.

 

Joseph “Eddie” Ballard Western Kentucky Veterans Center, Hanson:  10 a.m. CDT, Friday, May 27.  WKVC Chaplain Sam Beeny will conduct the Annual Memorial Day Service.  Families of WKVC residents who have passed away the past year have been invited to the service. The American Legion Post 6 Honor Guard, Post 2 as well as VFW Post 5480 will take part in the program presenting the colors, leading the pledge, reading poetry and paying tribute to our Veterans. Ms. Margie Bowman will sing for the residents and guests. Hanson Mayor Mickey DeMoss is the scheduled guest speaker. WKVC Staff will take part in the Resident Memorial reading the names of our Veterans who have passed away this past year, followed by taps. Chaplain Beeny will conclude the program asking those present to share memories of the Veterans.
