Member of 2012 UK Championship Basketball Team Named Wellness Director for Kentucky Employees’ Health Plan

Frankfort, Ky. (June 1, 2016) –Twany Beckham, a member of the 2012 University of Kentucky Men’s Basketball National Championship team, has been named Wellness Director for the Kentucky Employees’ Health Plan (KEHP), Personnel Cabinet Secretary Thomas B. Stephens announced today.

In this role, Beckham will work to engage, encourage, and promote wellness activities for all public employees across the state.

“Twany has a great story to tell about hard work, determination and dedication,” said Sec. Stephens. “His enthusiasm will be a great motivator as he works with the KEHP population to encourage an environment of wellness.”

“Twany was always a great teammate who inspired others, who brought people together and who people looked up to because of his work ethic,” UK head coach John Calipari said. “He brings those traits with him to this position. I couldn’t be more proud of him or more thankful to our governor.”

A native of Louisville, Beckham spent two-plus seasons studying and playing basketball at Mississippi State before joining the University of Kentucky basketball team in 2011 as a walk-on player. Plagued by injury, Beckham had surgery on both hips and his back during his college career. Despite setbacks, Beckham never gave up his basketball career. He graduated from UK in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in communications.

During his senior year, Beckham wrote a book, “Full Court Press: Conquering Adversity Under Pressure.” The book chronicles Beckham’s life from his days as a teenager in Louisville to being part of a national championship team, and how he tackled obstacles along the way.
