Madisonville Woman Dead, Morganfield Couple Injured in Head-On Collision

KSP NEWS RELEASE

Madisonville, Ky. (October 14th, 2016) – The Kentucky State Police is investigating a two vehicle, injury-collision that resulted in a fatality. The collision occurred on US 41, Nebo Road in Madisonville on Friday, October 14, 2016 at approximately 4:00 p.m.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Whitney Pinkerton, 28, Madisonville, was operating a 2006 Saturn passenger car southbound on US 41. John Jenkins, 73, Morganfield, was operating a 2015 Lincoln passenger car northbound on US 41. Mr. Jenkins was traveling with his wife, Peggy Jenkins as a passenger. Mrs. Pinkerton had just finished passing multiple other motorists and was merging back to her lane of travel. As she re-entered the southbound lane, she lost control of her vehicle and crossed back into the northbound lane, colliding head-on into Mr. Jenkins. The collision caused severe damage to both vehicles.

All three occupants were transported to Baptist Health Hospital in Madisonville for treatment of injuries sustained in the collision. At the E.R., Mrs. Pinkerton succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical staff. Mr. Jenkins was flown from Baptist E.R. to Deaconess Hospital, Evansville, IN for further treatment of his injuries. Mrs. Jenkins remained at Baptist Hospital.

Trooper Bob Winters is investigating the collision. KSP was assisted by the Madisonville Police Department, Madisonville Fire Department and Medical Center Ambulance Center and the Hopkins County Coroner.
