Madisonville Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Hitting Wife With Hammer

A 68 year old Madisonville man was charged with attempted murder last night after he allegedly hit his wife in the head with a hammer.

According to Madisonville Police, officers responded to a 911 call at 338 Murray Street around 8:10 p.m. Saturday and found Roderick Brinkley and his 61 year old wife, Sounderl Brinkley outside with blood on their clothes. Police say Sounderl Brinkley appeared to be injured. Authorities report Mrs. Brinkley told officers Mr. Brinkley had hit her in the head with a hammer.

While inside the residence with Mr. Brinkley, he reportedly uttered that he intended to kill the woman and was taken into custody by officers.

Sounderl Brinkley was airlifted to Deaconess Hospital for treatment.

Police say Roderick Brinkley refused treatment. He was transported to the Hopkins County Detention Center and charged for Attempted Murder – Domestic Violence.
