Long-time Union Co. Jail Employee Running for Jailer in Primary Election

Long-time jail employee Michelle Steele is running for the jailer’s seat.

Steele tells WMSK News she has been an employee at the jail for thirteen years.

If elected as jailer, she would like to see more inmate programs implemented.

She feels her experience makes her the best choice as Union County’s jailer.

44 year old Steele has lived in Union County for over two decades.

Steele will be facing off in the May Primary Election against former Union County Sheriff’s Deputy Shawn Elder who was appointed as Jailer by Judge-Executive Jody Jenkins in October 2015 after Kathy Smith retired. The winner of the May Primary Election will fulfill the the remaining two years of Smith’s term.
