KYTC: Section of KY 862/Casner Rd in HOPKINS County is CLOSED Due to Erosion Issues

KYTC NEWS RELEASE

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has closed a 2-mile section of KY 862 in HOPKINS County effective immediately.

Engineers have closed KY 862/Casner Road between KY 254/Brown Road at mile point 2.834 extending eastward to the intersection with KY 892/Hicklin Road at mile point 4.928.

Engineers cited continuing erosion issues along KY 862 in the Elk Creek area for the closure.  There are no homes on the 2-mile section.

The KYTC Hopkins County Highway Maintenance Crew spent several weeks on extensive erosion control work in this area last year.  However, several slides and continuing erosion issues have created chronic safety concerns prompting closure of the roadway.

Due to the extended area in need of major repairs there is no estimation on when this section of KY 862/Casner Road might reopen to traffic.  Approximately 350 vehicles travel this section of KY 862 in an average day.
