Oak Grove, KY (July 9, 2016) – The Kentucky State Police is investigating a two-vehicle, fatality-collision that occurred on Interstate 24, approximately one mile east of Oak Grove, on Saturday, July 09, 2016 at 3:05 a.m.
According to Kentucky State Police, the preliminary investigation revealed that 57 year old Clifton Spencer, of Columbia, NC, was driving a 2016 Freightliner tractor and trailer westbound on Interstate 24 at approximately the 91 mile marker. Police say 26 year old Donald Matthews, of Tacoma, WA, was operating a 2005 Cadillac westbound on Interstate 24 and approached Spencer’s semi at a high rate of speed and crashed into the the rear of the trailer, lodging the car underneath of the trailer.
KSP reports Matthews was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Christian County Coroner.
KSP was assisted at the scene by Christian County EMS, Christian County Fire and Rescue, Christian County Coroner, and Amhearse.
