KSP Investigating Fatal Collision on Interstate 69

KSP POST 2 NEWS RELEASE

Madisonville, KY (Hopkins County) – The Kentucky State Police is investigating a single-vehicle, fatality-collision that occurred on Interstate 69, just north of the 116 mile-marker, on Thursday, February 11, at 3:45 a.m.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Roger Jessee, 50, Lebanon, TN, was operating a 2014 Kenworth tractor-trailer southbound on Interstate 69 (formerly the Edward T. Breathitt Pennyrile Parkway, mile-marker 44) when he lost control of the vehicle. It exited the right, southbound lane of I-69 and traveled across the southbound I-69/US 41 ramp. The vehicle crossed the emergency lane and struck the guardrail. It traveled down an earthen embankment and overturned. The vehicle came to rest partially on its top, off the roadway.

Mr. Jessee, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene by Hopkins County Coroner, Dennis Mayfield.

Trooper Ben Sawyer is investigating the collision. KSP CVE, the Madisonville Police Department, the Madisonville Fire Department, the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department, Medical Center Ambulance Service, and the Hopkins County Coroner’s assisted at the scene.

At the present time, southbound travel is restricted to one lane in the area.

The collision remains under investigation by the KSP.
