KSP Investigating Accidental Shooting Involving a Graves County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant

Kentucky State Police are investigating an accidental shooting involving a Graves County Sheriff’s Office sergeant who shot his step-daughter while unloading a firearm.

According to KSP, troopers responded to the apparent accidental shooting at a residence in Hickory, KY around 12:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say a preliminary investigation shows that Graves County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant David Warner returned home at the end of an overtime shift; and, as he was unloading an off-duty firearm, it accidentally discharged one round and hit his 17 year-old step-daughter, who was standing in the path of the bullet.

Authorities indicate 17 year old girl’s injuries were non-life threatening, and she was transported by Mayfield Fire and EMS to Baptist Health Hospital in Paducah. At this time, the victim is reportedly in stable condition.

Sheriff Dewayne Redmon of the Graves County Sheriff’s Office requested the Kentucky State Police handle the investigation, due to it involving a member of his department. The investigation continues by Kentucky State Police.
