KSP: Autopsy results released of Hopkins Co. man shot and killed by trooper

The autopsy results on the body of a Hopkins County man killed by a state trooper over the weekend have been released.

Kentucky State Police reports the preliminary results show 23 year old Dylan R. Whitaker of White Plains died as a result of gunshot wounds. The autopsy was conducted Monday at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Madisonville.

According to KSP, the shooting occurred Saturday afternoon when a trooper from Post 2 in Madisonville was involved in a vehicle pursuit with Whitaker on an ATV, until he lost control of the ATV on Dragline Road, and it overturned. Authorities say Whitaker then brandished a handgun and fired shots at the trooper, who returned fire and hit Whitaker. Whitaker was pronounced dead at the scene by the Hopkins County Coroner.

Pursuant to KSP policy, Trooper Curtis Crick, a five-year-veteran of the agency, has been placed on paid administrative leave.

State Police are continuing to investigate the deadly shooting.
