MAYFIELD, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky State Police say a man has been fatally shot after he fired at officers who were providing security in the aftermath of deadly tornadoes. The shooting occurred early Wednesday. Officers from the Frankfort Police Department were in Mayfield helping local agencies patrol the Mayfield-Graves County Fairgrounds. State Police spokeswoman Sarah Burgess says a man with a gun approached officers and fired several shots in their direction. Frankfort officers fired back, striking the man, who was pronounced dead at a hospital. The man’s identity was not immediately released. Last month’s tornadoes killed 22 people in Graves County alone and more than 90 people in five states.
