Kentucky lottery funded $196 million in FY 2015 student aid

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky Lottery Corp. says new figures indicate lottery proceeds last fiscal year provided more than $196 million in scholarships and grants to more than 91,000 students statewide.

The lottery says proceeds are used to fund the Kentucky Educational Excellence Scholarship program, College Access Program grants and Kentucky Tuition Grants.

Lottery President and CEO Arch Gleason says lottery ticket sales provide 95 cents of every student aid dollar provided by the state other than loans.

A news release from the lottery says the new figures came from the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority. The lottery says more than 659,000 Kentucky students have received scholarships and grants worth $2.4 billion since 1998.
