Janice May Duckworth Sheffer, 78, of Morganfield, KY passed away surrounded by her family on January 11, 2019. Janice was born in Morganfield, KY on May 6, 1940 to the late James Stanley and Nannie Pearl Wilhelm Duckworth. She married Larry Sheffer on December 27, 1955.
She is survived by children, Mark of Owensboro, Debbie Brown (Terry) of Frankfort, Eddie (Gail), Gary (Becky), Michael (Nikki) all of Morganfield and Randy (Andee) of Evansville. She also leaves behind 20 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren plus two on the way, and a brother, James Stanley “Brother” Duckworth. Preceding her in death was husband Larry, son Jeff, grandson Bryce, and sister, Nina Hunt.
Janice was a graduate of Henderson Community College with an Associates Degree in Nursing, and practiced at both Henderson Community Methodist Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital Cardiac/ICU in Evansville. She was also a flight nurse. Caring for the wounded and nursing were both passions of hers – including two legged, four legged and winged – long before she had RN after her name.
Janice was a long time member of First Baptist Church who lived out her faith every day, had a very green thumb in the garden, and loved to cook elaborate meals for her family and others. Her chicken & dumplings will especially be missed at all future family gatherings. She loved to read, keep up with the news, putter around with decorating, and watch her growing legacy in her children and grandchildren’s activities. She didn’t hesitate to tell you what she thought about something. She cared deeply for her family, friends, and most importantly, children and those who were vulnerable.
Visitation will be 2-6 PM Sunday, January 13 and 11 AM until service time Monday at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. Her funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church on Monday at 1 PM. Steve Arnett will officiate. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Morganfield, KY.
