NEW RELEASE
HENDERSON, KY, July 14, 2016 – Motorists should be alert that the intersection of Helm and Letcher streets in Henderson’s East End is going to be converted from a two-way to a four-way stop sometime next week.
The change is being made as a safety precaution with the new East End Park about to open on the northeast corner of the intersection.
The Traffic Control Department in the City of Henderson Public Works Department completed a study of traffic flow on Letcher Street from Clay Street to Washington Street, said Public Works Director Brian Williams.
He said the study data concluded that the intersection should become a four-way stop because of the potential for increased pedestrian traffic generated by the new park and the proposed Audubon KidZone.
Williams said the new stop signs will be installed on the north and south sides of Letcher Street early next week, weather dependent. He said orange barrels to draw attention to the change will be set up temporarily, and a flyer will be distributed in the neighborhood to alert people.
Additionally, the speed limit will be reduced from 30 mph to 20 mph along Letcher Street from Washington Street to Clay Street.
A date for the official opening and ribbon-cutting for East End Park will be set soon.
