A 14 year old gunshot victim from Hopkins County has died.
The Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office says 14 year old Wyatt Whitaker of Nortonville died around 2:05 Monday afternoon at St. Mary’s Hospital where he was flown for treatment.
Kentucky State Police reported earlier today the shooting occurred around 9:00 this morning when Whitaker and another 14 year old juvenile were at a residence on Farmers Crossing Road in White Plains. Authorities say Whitaker was handling a firearm when it discharged and he accidentally shot himself. Whitaker was airlifted from the scene to St. Mary’s in Evansville, IN where he died from the gunshot wound.
An autopsy is scheduled for 1:00 Tuesday afternoon at the Vanderburgh County Coroner’s Office.
Kentucky State Police and the Coroner’s Office are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
