Henderson woman recognized as 2016 GRADD Volunteer of the Year

A Henderson woman was recognized as the 2016 “GRADD Volunteer of the Year” at the 14th Annual GRADD Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on Thursday.

According to a release from GRADD, Sandy Blue has tireless served on the GRADD Area Council on Aging for 17 years. She has chaired the council for 16 years and has proven to be a wonderful leader for both peers and staff. During her service as chair, officials say she served as part of the GRADD Board of Directors, and assisted, for about nine years, with coordination of the Green River Regional Senior Games, which is now called the Master’s Athletic Challenge. For most of those years, Blue attended almost every game event – and even participated in some. She also volunteered at the National Senior Games event, held in Louisville in 2007.

Blue has been employed at Henderson Methodist Hospital since 1985. During her tenure, GRADD officials indicate she has served as Director of Volunteer Services. In addition, she has served as past President of the KY Society of Directors of Volunteer Services and past President for the KY Hospital Gift Shop Managers Association, both of which are under the KY Hospital Association.

The GRADD Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon is held each spring to honor the region’s many dedicated volunteers serving in the Americorp, State Health Insurance Assistance Program, Ombudsman, and Family Caregiver programs.
