Henderson man charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting his mom

A Henderson man was arrested and charged with attempted murder Wednesday after allegedly shooting his mother.

Henderson Police Department said officers responded to the 1600 block of Powell Street at 4:21 p.m. Wednesday in reference to a woman being shot multiple times.

When officers arrived, they encountered Maegan Fulkerson, 38, of Henderson, who had what appeared to be multiple gunshot wounds. Police provided medical aid to Fulkerson until Emergency Medical Services took over and transported her to a medical facility for further treatment.

Based on witness statements, police said they determined that Shon Denton-Higgs, 21, of Henderson was the alleged shooter. Witnesses stated he left the scene before officers arrived.

Through investigation, detectives learned that Fulkerson is Denton-Higgs mother and there had been an argument before the shooting occurred.

Denton-Higgs was charged with attempted murder (domestic violence). He is lodged at the Henderson County Detention Center.

Police said that Fulkerson is in critical condition at a local hospital as of late Thursday morning.
