Henderson man arraigned on murder charge in connection with deadly street race

A Henderson man has been arraigned on a murder charge in connection to a street race that turned deadly on South Green Street in May.

Korbin Candler, 20, of Henderson, was arraigned Tuesday in Henderson Circuit Court on several charges, including murder, four counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to render aid or assistance, and racing a motor vehicle on a public highway. Candler was indicted on these charges by a grand jury on Thursday.

The charges stem from a street racing incident on South Green Street in Henderson near Taco Bell on Memorial Day.

Henderson Police Department said they responded to the 100 block of South Green Street at 8:14 p.m. May 27th in reference to a two-vehicle crash involving injuries.

Officers learned that a Challenger and a Mustang were racing northbound on South Green Street. The Mustang swerved in front of the Challenger, causing the Challenger to swerve into oncoming traffic and collide with a Chrysler Sebring.

First responders extricated people from both vehicles. One woman, Kelly Green, 46, of Evansville, died from her injuries. Four others were hospitalized for their injuries.

Police said in May that the Mustang driver returned to the scene and gave a statement to police following the accident. Police confirmed that the Mustang driver was Candler.
