Henderson County Sheriff’s Office investigating shooting involving 12-year-old victim

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office said they are investigating a shooting that occurred in the 1300 block of U.S. 41-South Thursday morning.

Sheriff Chip Stauffer said that a 12-year-old boy was shot once at about 10 minutes before 10 Thursday morning. He said that the boy’s family called 911.

Stauffer said the boy was air evacuated to St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville for treatment.  Stauffer said he wouldn’t speculate on the extent of the child’s injuries.

The Sheriff said that, after a preliminary investigation, the shooting appears to be accidental.  The Sheriff’s Department’s investigation is ongoing.

Stauffer said the sheriff’s department is not releasing what type of weapon was involved with the shooting.

The Robards Volunteer Fire Department and Henderson Emergency Medical Services also responded at the scene.
