Henderson Board of Commissioners Pass Sidewalk Ordinance on First Reading

NEWS RELEASE

HENDERSON, KY, November 22, 2016– The Henderson Board of Commissioners passed the first reading of an ordinance detailing downtown merchants’ use of the sidewalk for merchandise at its regular meeting on Tuesday night in the Assembly Room.

They also accepted the Water & Sewer Commission audit, heard an update on the 911 Communication System project and accepted the Henderson City-County Planning Commission’s refund of unused funds ($50,599) at its regular meeting on Tuesday night in the Assembly Room.

The sidewalk ordinance says merchants can use 3 feet of the sidewalk during business hours and must leave 4.5 feet unobstructed for accessibility.

The agenda included several items of business since the earlier meeting scheduled for November was canceled on Election Day.

Other items on the agenda included:

 Passing the second reading of an ordinance accepting sidewalk improvements on Harding Avenue.
 Hearing from members of Calvary Baptist about a situation they have with a sign they purchased from another church and hope to erect. Within the current sign ordinance, the lighted sign they purchased is not allowed in their residential neighborhood. The commission sent the matter to the Henderson City-County Planning Commission for consideration of what the options might be.
 Passing first reading of an ordinance accepting sewer improvements in Finley Addition.
 Passing first reading of an ordinance annexing Palmer Oil Co. at 2120 S. Green St. (a voluntary annexation) and right-of-way at the same address.
 Amending the appropriation and budget ordinance for reasons including: Job classification and pay plan, a new phone system, land acquisition and other items. A grant application is pending for the phone system. The land acquisition is for a new fire station.
 Authorizing a Fire Department grant application to FEMA that would be used for equipment to fight fires off-road, a small boat and gear-drying equipment.
 Approving a change order for the Municipal Services Center under construction in Henderson Corporate Park that resulted in a $13,876 credit to the City.
