Henderson, KY –The Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) received approval from the Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) for its plan to begin stages of on-campus operations beginning Monday, June 1. The majority of Henderson Community College (HCC) faculty and staff have been working remotely since mid-March, and most will continue to do so during this stage of reopening on-campus operations. The college has also been working with those students who needed to fulfill lab and clinical portions of their courses from the Spring 2020 semester. HCC’s online summer 8-week term began on June 1.
Each college in KCTCS has designated a Healthy at Work Officer to oversee the health and safety of students, faculty, and staff. All employees are required to take online training on the new health and safety protocols before returning to work on-campus. HCC is also working with its on-campus educational partners to ensure services continue with an emphasis on health and safety.
Both virtual and in-person services are now available with the in-person support concentrated in the Start Center/Admissions area of the Sullivan Technology Center (STC). HCC is enrolling now for summer and fall classes. Five-week Summer II classes begin June 29. The Fall 2020 semester begins August 17, and classes will be offered in a variety of formats (barring any further disruption from the pandemic). HCC will offer fully online classes as well as face-to-face and hybrid (mixture of both online and face-to-face). Face-to-face classes will have a strong online or remote instruction component, so if in-person classes must move online for a while, the transition will be easier for students. The college will also offer a variety of scheduling options, including 16-week, 15-week, 12-week and 8-week sessions.
“I am extremely pleased with how the students, staff and faculty have adapted to the new Healthy at HCC protocols. We are utilizing this time to continue to make adjustments to ensure a healthy and safe environment for everyone,” commented HCC President Dr. Jason Warren.
Warren also noted that over the summer, additional conversations and planning will take place as our faculty, staff, and administration continue to make enhancements in preparation for the fall semester based on lessons learned. HCC will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation and follow federal and state guidelines regarding higher education.
The college and its community arts partners also continue to monitor state guidelines related to large gatherings that would impact future events held at the Preston Arts Center.
