GCSO: Traffic stop leads officers to impaired driver and over 100 grams of marijuana

GIBSON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE

Around 10:00 Monday night,  the Gibson County Sheriff’s Office reports a deputy initiated a traffic stop on a Red 2016 Ford Focus for speeding on US Highway 41. Upon stopping the vehicle on US 41 near County Road 550 South, authorities say the driver, 28 year old Stephan Howell of Indianapolis, presented the deputy with an Indiana Identification Card. While speaking with Howell, the deputy reportedly detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the driver. At that point the deputy began a roadside DUI investigation where standard field sobriety tests and a portable breath test were administered on Howell. Also during the investigation, the sheriff’s office says the deputy found and seized over 100 grams of Marijuana from Howells’ vehicle.

Howell was taken into custody and lodged in the Gibson County Jail for Driving While Suspended, Possession Of Marijuana and Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated Refusal. Authorities say Howell has since posted a $750 bond.

All Criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
