Gas Leak Forces Closure of Morganfield Street

A natural gas leak in Morganfield earlier today forced authorities to shut down a city street for about 30 minutes.

Morganfield Fire Department Chief Ricky Millikan tells WMSK News firefighters responded to a natural gas leak in the 500 block of West Geiger Street at 2:43 pm Sunday. After arriving on the scene, he says they found a lawn mower had hit and broken a gas valve.

According to Chief Millikan, fire department personnel and the Morganfield Police Department shut down the 500 block of West Geiger and stood by while personnel with the Morganfield Gas Department stopped the leak.

Chief Millikan tells me no residents in the area had to be evacuated, and there were no injuries.
