First Lady Glenna Bevin Hosts 2nd Meeting of the First Lady’s Youth Leadership Council in Berea

NEWS RELEASE

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Nov 21, 2016) – Over the weekend First Lady Glenna Bevin, along with Kentucky Youth Advocates, Kosair Charities and Casey Family Programs, hosted the second meeting of the First Lady’s Youth Leadership Council in Berea. This twelve-member council consists of young people representing different regions and backgrounds throughout the Commonwealth. Eleven of the members met to discuss and brainstorm solutions to today’s issues that are affecting them.

On Friday, the council kicked-off the retreat by visiting Berea College and having dinner with a professional storyteller who shared with them Berea’s historic background. Saturday’s events were held at Berea Partners for Education, where Cabinet for Health and Family Services Deputy Secretary Tim Feeley and Legislative Director Eric Clark spoke to the members, educating them on the legislative process.

“I want to empower our young people with the knowledge and information necessary to stand up and be leaders. These council members serve as a voice for our next generation, and it is imperative that we equip them with the intellectual skills necessary to achieve their greatest potential, not only for their own success, but for the success of Kentucky,” said Mrs. Bevin.

This event was made possible by the partnering of Kentucky Youth Advocates and Kosair Charities, along with monies provided through a grant from Casey Family Programs.

The First Lady’s Youth Leadership Council will reconvene Feb. 9th, 2017 for Child Advocacy Day at the Capitol.
