Fatal Train Collision Claims Life in Henderson County

HENDERSON, KY – The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal collision between a passenger vehicle and a CSX train that occurred Monday afternoon.

The accident took place at approximately 4:14 p.m. on February 2, 2026, at the crossing on Anthoston Frog Island Road. According to authorities, the driver of the passenger vehicle was killed in the impact.

Investigation and Safety Concerns

Sheriff Chip Stauffer noted that the railroad crossing where the crash occurred is not equipped with warning lights or crossing arms. This incident marks the second fatal train-related accident in the county in recent months; in October 2025, a father and son from Florida were killed at a similarly unprotected crossing near Robards.

Current response efforts include:

  • Accident Reconstruction: Investigators remain on-site to determine the cause of the collision.
  • Identification: The victim’s identity is being withheld until 2:00 p.m. today, February 3, at the request of the family.
  • Agency Response: Multiple emergency units, including the Henderson County Rescue Squad and the Coroner’s Office, assisted at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing. Officials urge motorists to use extreme caution when approaching rural railroad crossings that lack electronic signals.
