Ex-principal files defamation lawsuit

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — A former principal of Buechel Metro High School in Jefferson County has filed a lawsuit accusing top school district officials of creating a false perception of his tenure to demonstrate the need to merge two alternative schools.

The Courier-Journal (http://cjky.it/1WpjaJX) reports that Joey Riddle filed the lawsuit Friday in Jefferson County Circuit Court.

Riddle claims the Jefferson County Board of Education and Superintendent Donna Hargens defamed his performance as an educator and wrongfully demoted him from principal to assistant principal for voicing concerns that merging Buechel Metro High and Kennedy Metro Middle School could be dangerous for students and staff. Riddle is now assistant principal at another high school in Jefferson County.

JCPS spokeswoman Bonnie Hackbarth says the district has no comment about the lawsuit.
