A 25 year old Evansville woman has been charged in connection to a murder that occurred around 4:50 a.m. Tuesday at an apartment in the 18-hundred block of Plantation Court.
According to Evansville Police, officers responded to the scene regarding a report of a person being shot. Upon arrival, they found the door open, but no answer. Once officers entered the apartment they reportedly found 27 year old Stedman Baird deceased from what police say appeared to be a bullet wound to the head.
While on the scene, police report 25 year old Chauna Reed, approached the apartment and spoke with officers, providing them some preliminary information about the incident. She was then transported to the police station to be interviewed.
During the course of the investigation at the apartment, officers reportedly found two handguns, illegal narcotics, digital scales, and other items of evidence that were collected.
During the interview, police say Reed made a number of incriminating statements that led to her arrest. She was lodged in the Vanderburgh County Detention Center for murder, dealing methamphetamine and dealing a Schedule I Narcotic.
