Ellis Park cancels today’s races because of flooding;Track remains open for simulcasting, HHR gaming

HENDERSON, Ky. (Friday, Aug. 23, 2019) — Ellis Park has canceled today’s live race card because of torrential rain and flooding of the track and paddock area. The live music scheduled for after the races also has been called off.
Ellis Park remains open for simulcast wagering on tracks around the country and historical horse racing gaming. The clubhouse is not impacted by the flooding.
Live racing resumes Saturday morning at 12:50 p.m. Central.
Saturday morning’s Making of a Racehorse fan-education program WILL BE HELD as scheduled.
Making of a Racehorse — a free, family-friendly event — allows the public an up-close, behind-the-scenes look at what goes into getting a horse to the races. The program begins by the starting gate positioned by the south end of the parking lot (by the Kentucky exit) at 7 a.m. Central. Also included is a visit to trainer John Hancock’s barn, a backstretch tour and tour of the jocks’ room if time allows, with the program ending by 10 a.m. Participants are welcomed to take photos. The program is a collaboration between the Kentucky HBPA and Ellis Park, with Donut Bank providing donuts and coffee.
