LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — A University of Kentucky police captain, who is also a registered nurse, was in the right place at the right time when he helped deliver a baby at an intersection during student move-in day.
UK Police Chief Joe Monroe tells news outlets that Capt. Kevin Franklin was directing traffic Wednesday morning when a car pulled over with a woman who was in labor.
Franklin helped deliver the baby girl quickly and safely. The newborn was taken to the hospital in good condition.
Franklin is a 32-year veteran with the police department.
WTVQ-TV reports that this wasn’t the first time Franklin has delivered a baby while working with the force. About 20 years ago, he was eating at restaurant when a woman went into labor and he stepped in to help.
