MADISONVILLE, Ky. – Lane restrictions on the southbound U.S. 41 bridge planned for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2024 will be extended until 5 p.m. after inspectors noticed issues with a beam during the ongoing biannual inspection on Wednesday.
Extension of the single lane restriction by three hours will allow the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to make repairs without adding additional days to the planned work schedule for the bridge.
The beam on which repairs are necessary is a part of the Federal Highway Administration required structural inspection that takes place every two years, but it was not inspected as part of last fall’s FHWA required T-1 steel inspection. That inspection only looked at specific joints formed using T-1 steel during the original construction of the structure in the 1960s.
The inspection of the bridge is scheduled to continue through Saturday at 2 p.m.
