Coal miners in southern Illinois received WARN notices today.
Vice President of Operations of Alliance Resource Partners, L.P. Heath Lovell released the following statement Friday afternoon:
“ARLP’s subsidiary, White County Coal, LLC issued a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notice to all employees. White County Coal, LLC’s Pattiki mine is slated to cease production in the fourth quarter of 2016.”
Lovell stated the prolonged weak market conditions made this production response necessary. He said, “We deeply regret the impact of these decisions on our employees, their families and their communities.”
The statement does not indicate how many coal miners are affected by the closure.
