Breckinridge County Man Arrested After Multi-County Pursuit

At One Point Speeds Reached 130 Miles-Per-Hour

HENDERSON, Ky. (October 4, 2018)–Kentucky State Police troopers responded to a report of a vehicle pursuit on the Western Kentucky Parkway by Grayson County authorities around 5:30pm yesterday. A KSP trooper observed the fleeing vehicle traveling northbound of the William Natcher Parkway at 130 miles-per-hour. The pursuit started in Grayson County and traveling through Ohio, Daviess and Henderson Counties. During the pursuit, the suspect ran several vehicles off into the median but no injuries were reported.
Troopers and deputies pursued the fleeing 2019 Ford passenger car to Henderson County. The pursuit led onto the US 41 strip in Henderson where the fleeing suspect wrecked with another vehicle. He then fled the scene. The pursuing trooper performed a legal intervention with his Dodge Charger causing the suspect’s vehicle to spin sideways off the roadway to a stop. The troopers used their vehicles to block him in. As the troopers approached the suspect, he refused to cooperate with the their commands and resisted arrest. A KSP trooper deployed his issued Taser which helped him gain compliance to effect the arrest.
The suspect was later identified as Alek A. Nelson, 24 of Irvington, KY. Nelson was transported to Methodist Hospital via ambulance due to possible seizures which he was later transported to Owensboro Health. He is still in the hospital under guard and will be transported to Daviess County Detention Center in Owensboro after his hospital release.
Mr. Nelson has been charged with the following offenses:
1) Trafficking in Controlled Substance (Over 8 ounces of crystal methamphetamine)
2) Disregarding a Traffic Control Device
3) Leaving the Scene of an Accident
4) Driving on a Suspended or Revoked License
5) Reckless Driving
6) Fleeing/Evading 1st Degree (Motor Vehicle)
7) Speeding
8) Criminal Mischief 1st Degree
9) Resisting Arrest
Additional charges are likely for Nelson. Grayson and Daviess County authorities are pursuing warrants for charges they may have.
Grayson County Sheriff’s Department; Daviess County Sheriff’s Department; Owensboro Police Department; Henderson County Sheriff and Henderson City Police assisted in the pursuit.
