HENDERSON, Ky. (Aug. 24, 2026) – The U.S. 41 Twin Bridges in Henderson are fully reopened to traffic following the completion of temporary repairs to the southbound bridge to address an issue with a component of the bridge identified during a bridge inspection earlier this month.
The left lane on the southbound bridge reopened at approximately 2 p.m. Monday, allowing motorists to again use both lanes of the bridge following an extended closure of the lane last week to ensure public safety, according to a news release.
Temporary repairs began over the weekend and were completed Monday afternoon, leading to the safe reopening of the closed lane. During the closure, KYTC immediately began developing a temporary repair that would restore travel sooner while custom, new bearings are fabricated for the permanent repair expected to begin this fall.
While the inspection identified some areas of the structures requiring general maintenance attention, the condition of three bearings on the southbound bridge approach into Kentucky required immediate attention to maintain the long-term safety of the structure.
A second project to perform permanent repairs is scheduled to begin and be completed before the end of the year. Work is expected to be completed within a matter of days, with much of the work planned during overnight hours to minimize impacts to motorists. The public will be notified once work is scheduled to begin.
