HOPKINSVILLE – A suspect has been arrested following an investigation into the theft of military veteran grave markers from local cemeteries in Hopkinsville.
Between Aug. 12 and Aug. 18, several veteran grave markers were stolen from cemeteries in the Hopkinsville area. There were 27 makers reported stolen from Cave Springs Cemetery and Riverside Cemetery.
As part of the investigation, pieces of the stolen markers were located at a local salvage yard. This discovery led to information that allowed investigators to identify Robert Lee Lafon as a suspect.
Lafon was charged Sunday with first-degree criminal mischief, receiving stolen property of $10,000 or more and violating graves. He is lodged in the Christian County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond.
The investigation remains ongoing.
