Alcohol vote set for early 2016 in Graves County

MAYFIELD, Ky. (AP) — Voters in a western Kentucky county will decide early next year whether to allow packaged alcohol sales.

Graves County Clerk Barry Kennemore told The Mayfield Messenger that the local option election has been set for Jan. 26.

The group Vote Graves County Wet 2015 turned in a petition recently after months of gathering signatures in support of voting on alcohol sales.

Kennemore says the petition contained 2,373 certified signatures, which was 152 more than the 2,221 signatures that were required.

The newspaper reports that the Mayfield Golf and Country Club is currently the only restaurant in the county allowed to sell liquor by the drink, which passed in 2004. A special election to allow all restaurants to sell liquor by the drink failed in November 2003.
