Police have released the name of the 17 year old girl killed in Henderson last night.
Henderson Police Public Information Officer Jennifer Richmond reports the shooting victim is 17 year old Autumn Burkhart, a tenth grade student at Henderson County High School. The injured victim’s name is 18 year old Elijah Roberts, who is a student at Central Academy.
Police reported that officers responded to a shooting in the 1000 block of Powell Street around 9:15 p.m. Thursday where they found Burkhart and Roberts had been shot.
Authorities say Burkhart and Roberts were transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds where Burkhart later died.
25 year old Joshua Bumphus, of Henderson was reportedly arrested and lodged in the Henderson County Detention Center for first degree assault. Police say the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
According to Officer Richmond, the Henderson County School System has been actively involved since they were informed of Burkhart’s death. She says the school district is assisting students and faculty affected by this tragedy.

A Henderson man has been charged in connection to a shooting Thursday night that killed a 17 year old female and injured an 18 year old male.
Around 9:15 p.m. Thursday, Henderson Police report officers responded to a shooting in the 1000 block of Powell Street where an investigation found 18 year old Elijah Roberts, of Henderson, and a 17 year old female had been shot.
According to police, Roberts was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for multiple gunshot wounds and the 17 year old female, who is not identified in the report, was also transported to St. Mary’s Hospital for a gunshot wound and later died from her injuries.
