McConnell Applauds SCOTUS Halt of President Obama’s Anti-Coal Regs

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell made the following statement Tuesday on the U.S. Supreme Court order regarding President Obama’s so-called “Clean” Power Plan:

“Last year I called on governors to hold off submitting plans mandated under the President’s regressive federal energy regulations until courts could determine whether the regulations were even legal. Today’s Supreme Court order to halt those regulations—regulations that attack the middle class and won’t even have a meaningful impact on global carbon emissions—is just the latest sign they may not be. I applaud the court for implementing this stay until a final determination can be made.”

Background: U.S. Senate Majority Leader McConnell has been fighting against the president’s hurtful policies, and these regressive energy regulations in particular, since he first proposed them. Last year, he wrote a letter to every governor in the country suggesting that they take a responsible wait-and-see approach before subjecting the citizens of their states to unnecessary pain caused by complying with the government’s request for state implementation plans for these outrageous regulations. Senator McConnell wrote this letter because there is a legitimate question as to whether the administration even has the authority under federal law to issue these regulations
