A Vanderburgh County jail officer crashed near Indiana State Road 57 after fleeing a traffic stop.
Evansville Police Department and Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office arrested Hezekiah Fils-Aime, a jail officer with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office.
Fils-Aime allegedly fled at a high speed following a traffic stop on U.S. 41 that was conducted by an Evansville officer. His vehicle later crashed near State Road 57.
Immediately after being notified of the arrest, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office placed the employee on administrative leave pending further review. His employment status will be formally evaluated during an internal administrative meeting scheduled for Monday morning.
Sheriff Noah Robinson issued the following statement:
“We have always held our deputies and officers to a very high standard, without exception. The actions taken last night reflect that commitment. I am deeply concerned by the irresponsible and untrue speculation circulating on Facebook. Allegations of bias, favoritism, or a ‘cover-up’ are completely false. Our agency has zero tolerance for misconduct and a well-documented record of holding our own accountable.”
The criminal investigation remains under the authority of the Evansville Police Department. The Sheriff’s Office has and will fully cooperate with EPD and the Prosecutor’s Office should any further review be needed.
