THE LONG LABOR DAY HOLIDAY TRAVEL PERIOD IS OFF TO A DEADLY START

HERE IN HENDERSON COUNTY AS EMERGENCY RESPONDERS WORK TWO

SEPARATE FATALITY TRAFFIC CRASHES THAT OCCURED WITHIN HOURS OF

ONE ANOTHER. HENDERSON COUNTY CORONER BRUCE FARMER CONFIRMS

THE DRIVER OF A VEHICLE THAT RAN OFF THE PRITCHETT CROOKS ROAD AROUND

3:45 THIS MORNING WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE.

THE VICTIM HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS 30-YEAR OLD

TRAVIS M. BESS OF HANSON KENTUCKY. HENDERSON COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY

CHRIS KELLER SAYS BESS WAS BY HIMSELF AND HEADED HOME FROM WORK

WHEN FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON HIS SUV LEFT THE ROADWAY. DEPUTY KELLER

SAYS BESS OVERCORRECTED AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER SEVERAL TIMES

BEFORE LANDING ON ITS ROOF. BESS WAS EJECTED AND WAS PINNED UNDER THE

WRECKAGE. HE WAS FOUND BY TWO CO-WORKERS FROM RIVERVIEW COAL WHERE

HE WAS EMPLOYED.

THEN AROUND 7:15 THIS MORNING FIRST RESPONDERS WERE CALLED TO A SINGLE

VEHICLE CRASH AT THE EIGHT MILE MARKER OF THE AUDUBON PARKWAY.

DEPUTY KELLER SAYS UPON ARRIVAL AUTHORITIES FOUND THAT 23-YEAR OLD

DAKOTA MULLINS OF EVANSVILLE HAD BEEN EJECTED FROM HIS VEHICLE. ONCE

AGAIN AUTHORITIES SAY THEY ARE UNSURE WHY HIS VEHICLE WENT OUT OF

CONTROL AND FLIPPED SEVERAL TIMES. MULLINS WAS THE ONLY PERSON IN THE

VEHICLE AND WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. THE SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

SAYS PEOPLE SLOWING DOWN TO LOOK AT THE ACCIDENT SCENE CAUSED A

SECOND CRASH ON THE PARKWAY BUT FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO INJURIES.

THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE NOTES BOTH VICTIMS WERE NOT WEARING THEIR SEATBELTS

AND IS IMPLORING EVERYONE TO BUCKLE UP TO PREVENT FUTURE SUCH TRAGEDIES.
