NWS Special Weather Statement-Slick Driving Conditions Possible This Morning

Light snow will gradually come to an end from west to east across
the region through 8 AM. After sunrise, the snow should be limited
to the Pennyrile region of west Kentucky, where temperatures are
expected to linger just above freezing. While the snow has
resulted in a coating on the ground and elevated objects over much
of the region, most road surfaces remain clear.

Through daybreak, gusty north winds will drop temperatures into
the 20s across southern Illinois and southeast Missouri, which
could result in black ice where roads remain wet. However, the
gusty winds may eventually dry the road surfaces and reduce or
eliminate the black ice concern.

Motorists across southeast Missouri and southern Illinois should
slow down and be prepared for slick driving conditions through the
morning commute. Over west Kentucky and southwest Indiana slick
spots should generally be confined to bridges and overpasses.

A stronger winter storm system will likely bring some
accumulating snow and ice to much of the area Wednesday night
into Thursday. Please stay tuned to the National Weather Service
in Paducah Kentucky for the latest forecast updates on this
developing winter storm.
