A Calloway County man was flown to an Evansville hospital after he swerved to miss in a deer in the road and his Jeep crashed into a tree.

According to Kentucky State Police Post 1 in Mayfield, around 10:30 p.m. Monday 32 year old Melvin Odell, of Murray, was driving a Jeep eastbound on US 62 near Kuttawa when he tried to avoid a deer in the roadway and went off the right shoulder of the road, traveled through a ditch and crashed into a tree.

Police indicate Odell was not wearing a seat belt and due to his injuries he was airlifted to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. for non-life threatening injuries.

Kentucky State Police Post 1 is continuing to investigate the crash.

KSP was assisted by Lyon County Sheriff’s Department, Lyon County EMS, and Kuttawa Fire and Rescue.
