MPD: Four injured when vehicle hits trailer

Four local residents were injured in a vehicle accident in Morganfield Thursday night.

Morganfield Police Sergeant Geoffrey Deibler tells WMSK News the accident occurred around 7:30 p.m. in the 700 block of N. Morgan Street. He says a 77 year old female, not identified in the report, was driving southbound when she crashed into a mowing service in the area that was loading up their trailer after finishing a job and was parked on the side of the southbound lane going with the flow of traffic. After the woman hit the trailer, the vehicle reportedly flipped over onto its side.

According to Sgt. Deibler, the woman’s three juvenile passengers were able to get out of the vehicle, but the 77 year old female was briefly trapped inside. He says two bystanders, Michael Willett and Kevin Quinn, acted quickly when they noticed a fuel leak and helped the woman get out of the vehicle and to a safe place. He indicates one of the mowing service’s employees was loading a mower at the time of the crash and barely escaped injury.

The Morganfield Police and Fire Departments, along with the Union County Sheriff’s Office, Rescue Squad and Union County Ambulance Service all responded to the scene. Sgt. Deibler reports N. Morgan Street was closed for about an hour as a result of the accident.

The 77 year old woman and her three juvenile passengers were transported to Methodist Hospital Union County for treatment of injuries.
