A local teen will be laid to rest today after his life was tragically cut short last week.
Funeral services for 17 year old Damon Collins of Morganfield will be held this morning at 11:00 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield. Visitation will begin after 9:00. He will be buried in the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Webster County. Collins is survived by his father, Bobby Collins of Morganfield, his mother, Monica Dillman of Evansville, his grandmother, Betty Collins of Morganfield, three sisters and a brother.
Collins was killed last Wednesday night just after 8:00 while he was riding his bicycle on Highway 2091 in the Whispering Meadows area when he was hit by a car driven by 22 year old Steven Freeman Jr. of Morganfield, according to state police. Collins was airlifted from the scene to an Evansville hospital where he died from his injuries.
The 22 year old Morganfield man was arrested by the Union County Sheriff’s Department and charged with murder, DUI and driving on a suspended operator’s license. He remains lodged in the Union County Detention Center.
