Louisville police reviewing man’s arrest after video spreads

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Louisville Metro Police officials have launched an investigation into how two officers handled an arrest of a black man after cellphone footage of the incident spread on social media.

News outlets report a video shows two officers shouting for passenger Montez Williams to exit his vehicle Saturday afternoon. Police say the car was pulled over for traffic violations and smelled of marijuana.

In footage filmed by the driver, officers pull Williams to the ground as he insists he isn’t resisting. At one point, an officer takes out a stun gun and threatens to use it.

The department said Wednesday that “reasonable physical force” is sometimes necessary. The Courier-Journal (http://cjky.it/2dROCr1 ) reports body camera footage shows Williams refusing to give his birthdate.

Police haven’t released the identities or races of the officers.
