Local law enforcement agencies conduct active shooter training at UCMS

Local law enforcement agencies participated in an active shooter scenario at the Union County Middle School Wednesday afternoon.

About a year ago, Union County Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Thomas tells WMSK News the Union says the local school board asked the sheriff’s office and Union County Emergency Management Director Vernon Martin about conducting emergency lock down drills.

He adds that several agencies participated in the active shooter training.

After a break for lunch, Deputy Thomas tells me they participated in live fire drills.

He indicates they conduct the emergency lock down drills on a regular basis with all Union County schools, including John Paul Catholic School. However, Deputy Thomas says this was the first active shooter scenario training and it took months of planning.

Deputy Thomas notes that they are going to continue their efforts to expand on the active shooter training.
