KSP: Louisville woman killed in I-24 Wreck

A Louisville woman was killed in a two-vehicle wreck in Lyon County over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Kentucky State Police responded to the crash around 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the 37 mile marker on I-24 near Kuttawa where they report a preliminary investigation revealed 71 year old Leslie D. Cunningham, of Evansville, IN., was driving westbound in the right hand lane when Cunningham traveled into the left hand lane into the path of a pickup truck driven by 73 year old Joseph M. Mouser, of Rineyville, KY. Police say it appeared Cunningham was trying to make a U-turn across I-24 and Mouser crashed into the driver’s side of Cunningham’s vehicle.

According to KSP, a passenger in Cunningham’s vehicle, 72 year old Mary D. Fugate, of Louisville, KY sustained multiple blunt force injuries in the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lyon County Coroner.

Police indicate Cunningham was airlifted from the scene of the wreck to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN with non-life threatening injuries. Mouser had some minor abrasions on his arm, but police say he refused medical treatment.
