HPD: Evansville woman charged with burglary and assaulting police officer

A 23 year Evansville woman has been charged with burglary and assaulting a Henderson Police officer.

Henderson Police report officers responded to a burglary call on Watson Lane around 4:00 Wednesday afternoon and when they arrived Kelsey Sanford was identified as the suspect by a witness. Officers reportedly handcuffed Sanford behind her back, but she slipped out of the cuffs and began to run from the officers. Police say when an officer began chasing Sanford she turned and punched him the face causing the handcuff to hit the officer in the face cutting him.

Sanford was taken into custody a second time and booked into the Henderson County Detention Center for Burglary 2nd Degree, Assault 2nd Degree – Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, Fleeing/Evading Police 2nd Degree (on foot), and a non-related charge of being a Fugitive from Another State (Indiana).

According to authorities, the officer was treated for his injuries at Methodist Hospital and released.
