Henderson Community Theatre Auditions for Picasso at the Lapin Agile

NEWS RELEASE

(Henderson) KY-Henderson Community Theatre has announced open auditions for its fall production, Picasso at the Lapin Agile by Steve Martin, at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, and Thursday, September 8, at the Henderson Fine Arts Center.  This absurdist comedy is set in 1904 in a Paris cafe.  According to comedian and playwright Martin, “Focusing on Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity and Picasso’s master painting, Les Demoiselles d’Avignon, the play attempts to explain, in a light-hearted way, the similarity of the creative process involved in great leaps of imagination in art and science.”

Director Steve McCarty will cast eleven roles, including seven men and two-to-four women varying in ages from early 20s through 60s:

  • Freddy, the owner and bartender of the Lapin Agile
  • Gaston, an older man
  • Germaine, waitress and Freddy’s girlfriend
  • Albert Einstein, age twenty-five
  • Suzanne, age nineteen
  • Sago, Picasso’s art dealer
  • Pablo Picasso, age twenty-three
  • Charles Dabernow Schmendiman, a young man
  • the Countess
  • a female admirer
  • a visitor

The audition will include cold readings from the play.  Interested auditioners who can’t make either audition are encouraged to contact Mr. McCarty at steve.mccarty@kctcs.edu  or call 270 831-9810 to arrange for alternate times.
