Gene Butts, age 75 of Sturgis, KY passed away peacefully, January 22, 2019 after a 3 year battle with cancer. Gene was born January 26, 1943 to Clyde and Gladys Butts in Sturgis, KY. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. He was a US Army veteran with 502 Brigade Aviation, rank SP5 as a helicopter crew chief and mechanic. He was a retired UMWA member and served as a Sturgis volunteer fireman and member of Union County Rescue Squad and Union County Search & Rescue. Gene owned and operated the Crappie Shack and Tradewater Boat Ramp for 30 years. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and archery pro. He was awarded a plaque by Kentucky Fish and Wildlife for his years of operating the boat ramp and providing a place for people to fish.

He was preceded in death by his parents Clyde Butts & Gladys Butts Suits.

Funeral service will be 1 PM Saturday 1/26/19 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Sturgis, KY.

Visitation will be 4-8 PM Friday and 10 AM until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Grangertown Cemetery in Sturgis, KY.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anthony’s Hospice
