Daytime Closures on KY 1078 at Spottsville in HENDERSON County starting THIS WEEK

KYTC NEWS RELEASE

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans daytime closures on a section of KY 1078 in the Spottsville community of HENDERSON County starting this week.

KY 1078/Spottsville Camp Road will be closed during daylight hours at mile point 17.5 just north of US 60 in Spottsville to allow geo-tech drilling near the east end of the US 60 Green River Bridge.   The drilling is to test sub-surface soil and rock to assist with planning, design work and engineering for eventual construction of a new bridge over the Green River at this site.

The placement of drilling equipment along KY 1078/Spottsville Camp Road will require the roadway to be closed.  There will be no impact on US 60 traffic through Spotsville.

Motorists should be prepared for KY 1078 to be closed during daylight hours on Wednesday and Thursday, May 4 & 5, 2016.  The crew will then take a break and return for additional daytime closures Monday through Thursday, May 9 through 12, 2016.

There will be no marked detour.  However, residents along KY 1078 will have access from the westernmost connection to US 60 near Baskett.

Approximately 200 vehicles travel this section of KY 1078 in an average day.

The existing US 60 Green River Bridge is located at US 60 mile point 19.388 in Henderson County.  Also known as the Spottsville Bridge and the Richard W. Owen Memorial Bridge, the 797 foot long structure was built as a toll bridge and opened to traffic in 1931.  Tolls were removed in August 1945.

Approximately 3,000 vehicles cross the bridge in an average day.  The US 60 Green River Bridge at Spottsville is 9 miles east of the US 41 Cloverleaf at Henderson and about 6 miles west of the Henderson-Daviess County Line.

The Spottsville Bridge is at Green River navigation mile point 8.6.

Construction of a new bridge at Spottsville is on track for a start date in late 2018 or sometime in 2019.
